Laying on of hands is a normal, biblical, natural way of expressing prayer for an individual. It has continued on in the life of the Christian church to our day. Because laying on of hands expresses prayer for an individual, hence it is appropriately used for ordination and for confirmation as well as other expressions of prayer for an individual.   A catechetical tool to assist with preparation for the Sacrament of brings together sacramental theology and our policies in a clear and accessible way, answering some questions.

Confirmation is the third and final sacrament which completes Christian initiation for Roman Catholics, as well as eastern Catholic churches, and is also prominent in the Orthodox Church and other Mainline Christian Author: Jethro Higgins.

It is surprising that it should have entered any one’s mind to make a Sacrament of Confirmation out of that laying on of hands which Christ applied to little children, and by which the apostles bestowed the Holy Spirit, ordained presbyters, and healed the sick; as the Apostle writes to Timothy: “Lay hands suddenly on no man.” (1 Tim. v. ). The laying on of hands gave an external picture of the bestowing of any gift, but it was not required for God to act. I think it is good to include the laying on of hands in an ordination service. Sometimes people lay hands on people in special cases of sickness as they pray for them.

Explain that in the Rite of Confirmation, the bishop and priests will extend their hands over the entire group (instead of laying hands on each Confirmand individually) as the bishop prays the following words (invite a student to come forward and read this): “All-powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new life.

The Laying On of Hands “The laying of hands on the candidates by the bishop and the concelebrating priests represents the biblical gesture by which the gift of the Holy Spirit is invoked” (Introduction 9). The concelebrating priests stand near the bishop. He faces the people and with hands joined, sings or says.

The Bible talks about this in several places, the sacrament of Confirmation is the fulfillment of Christ's will, imparted to the newly baptized by the laying on of hands the gift of the Spirit.

Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus, and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely. Typically, the confirmand then kneels before the pastor who, along with parents, sponsors, and others, lays hands on her head.

2 Order of Confirmation — The Laying On of Hands Notes Order of Confirmation: Introduction The Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred through the anointing with Chrism on the forehead, which is done by the laying on of the hand, and through the words: Accipe signaculum Doni Spiritus Sancti (Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit).

Book digitized by Google from the library of Oxford University and uploaded to the Internet Archive by user tpb. Laying on of hands to heal the sick This book is a call to fulfill what we are sent for- to heal the sick and take back what was stolen from the faithful- their health.

If we believe we will be able to serve as a vesel of Christ’s healing power/5. The Apostolic Constitution of Paul VI Divinae consortium naturae states that the matter of Confirmation is “the anointing with chrism on the forehead, which is done by the laying on of the hand.” In other words, the anointing of the head is the same as the laying on of the hand on the head described in the New Testament.

Was taught that you should never lay on hands as you could receive the Devil, was never happy with that teaching as I believed that God was stronger than that. This book shows that Laying on of hands can play an very important part of helping. It is taught in the bible and Jesus laid hands on people/5().

The laying on of hands is a religious practice. In Judaism semikhah (Hebrew: סמיכה, "leaning [of the hands]") accompanies the conferring of a blessing or authority.

In Christian churches, this practice is used as both a symbolic and formal method of invoking the Holy Spirit primarily during baptisms and confirmations, healing services, blessings, and ordination of priests, ministers.

I remember the Bishop, laying hands on my head and saying, “ be sealed in the Holy Spirit”. I remember thinking, that the Bishop performing the ceremony had been ordained a Bishop by having hands laid on his head by a previous Bishop.

And back and back and back all the way to Peter and the Apostles and Jesus. The laying on of hands is the procedure revealed by the Lord for performing many priesthood ordinances, such as confirmation, ordination, setting members apart to serve in callings, administering to the sick, and giving other priesthood blessings.

Confirmation In the laying on of hands there is also a confirmation of the candidate. This can be of a positive or negative nature. In the old covenant penalties imposed for sin, hands would be laid on the accused by witnesses to his offense.

By so doing they were making a .Laying on of Hands. The Bible frequently invests this simple gesture with weighty symbolism. Its significance can be fruitfully evaluated in connection with four concepts: blessing, miraculous power, separation, and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The laying on of hands is a symbolic act that sets individuals apart and signifies the imparting of spiritual blessings, authority, and/or power.

In the Old Testament, a blessing was often conferred in this way. For example, Jacob passed on blessings from God by laying his hands .
